Sparrow and the Gnome

I sat amongst the flowers, in the back yard of my home
and watched a tiny sparrow, perched on a garden gnome.
The sparrow kept on chirping like a whisper in gnomes ear,
so I crept a little closer, so even I could hear

Why do you sit here all alone? I never see you walk,
Tell me please, Oh garden gnome, or cant you even talk.
I can talk. Said Garden gnome, now listen what I say.
I’m always busy through the night and rest by light of day.

When everyone is sound asleep with eyelids closed real tight, that’s when I awaken and work right through the night.
I tend to all the gardens so the flowers can grow sweet
and I trim around the edges to keep the garden neat.

I scare away the prowlers and chase the spooks away,
I talk to Mother nature and watch her insects play.
I clean up in the veggie patch and plant a few more seeds,
I prune the pretty roses and pull out all the weeds.

I quietly check the doors are locked as round the house I creep.
I keep a watch on Children, whilst they are sound asleep
And when I know they’re cosy, safe and sound and warm,
I go back tending gardens until the light of morn.

The sparrow chirped a little more, before the fading light.
I better let you get some rest ‘cause soon it will be night.
Sparrow then departed, and thankyou gnome he said.
Gnome just sat there waiting for another night ahead.
