One For The Road

As you travel down lifes long hard road and you face the twists and bends,
you encounter many hardships but you meet a lot of friends.
For many years I've trudged that road and I've seen friends come and go,
I thought I'd met the very best.'til I met with Barry and Jo.

It was back in the early nineties, when we moved to Moreton Downs.
Our friendship started slowly but grew in leaps and bounds.
Barry and I were Military Men back in our early years
and a lot of our conversations were had with a couple of beers.

We regulary got together, on a Friday afternoon
with a stubby or six of fourex, and a good old Slim Dusty tune.
We relived our lives in the Army, and talked of the seeds we sewed
and before our session was over, We always had one for the road.

One for the Hume and the Princes and one for the Bruce and Sturt,
the Gun Barrell, Flinders and Gregory regardless of gravel or dirt.
We drank to the New England Highway and still in a good drinking mode
we would drink to the Eyre and Pacific, just to have one for the road.

One day a week was ample, for drinkin and braggin and stuff
cause more than one day of drinkin the road gets a little too rough.
With Rhonda and Jo there to guide us, back to our place of abode
we'd bid our farewells until Friday, and one more drink for the road.

Time has brought a few changes, our road found a very sharp bend
Our Friday drinking session suddenly came to an end.
Barry and Jo have departed, for a life on the road, they have gone,
Whilst I sit at home on a Friday and drink to the road they are on.

So now,as I move down lifes hard road and face the curves and bends
There's still a lot of hardships, but I'll always have some friends.
While ever they travell the Highways and wherever may be their abode
to our friendship we still raise our glasses and just have one for the road.
